The effect of foot structure and functional foot stability on the gait patterns of the foot
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Poor foot structure, such as flat feet or high arched feet were thought to cause excessive foot movement during gait, which in turn is the pre-cursor to foot injuries [1,3]. However, some studies claimed that the differences in gait patterns may not be due to foot structure alone [4,8,11]. It has been suggested that good foot functional stability can ‘protect’ the mal-aligned foot from injuries [9]. Functional Foot Stability is defined in this study as ‘the ability of the foot to continually adjust its position to maintain the body in an upright, balanced position’. An individual with good functional foot stability will be able to sense the foot position and if necessary, correct the position of the foot, thus preventing potential foot injuries. Whilst studies have been also done to relate foot structure and functional stability [6], as well as functional stability and gait patterns [12,14], no study has been done to investigate the combined effect of foot structure and functional foot stability on gait patterns. Therefore, this study examines the combined effect of foot structure and functional foot stability on running gait patterns.

Objective Stroke occurs when the supply of blood to the brain is either interrupted or reduced. The clinical presentation varies from minor neurological symptoms to severe deficits, depending on the location and the size of the brain lesion. Hemiparesis is one of the most striking features in the acute phase. Many other deficits may also be present, including postural imbalance. All persistent ...

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effects of pre-made foot orthotics on rear-foot and tibia variability and joint coupling patterns during stance phase of gait in male athletes with pes planus. Methods: Subjects of this semi-experimental research included 8 active men with pes planus. Kinematic gait data of these subjects were recorded by a motion analysis...
متن کاملThe effect of functional fatigue on dynamic and static balance in boy students with different plantar arch
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of functional fatigue on the dynamic and static balance of male students aged 15 to 18 with different plantar arch. To measure the subjects' foot arch, the Navicular Drop Test was used. The subjects were then randomly divided into three groups of 22 members with different foot arches. Later on, SEBT test, Modified Stork Balance, Fatigue Protoc...
